USPS Rates Rising in January 2024As you anticipate the new year, prepare for a United States Postal Service (USPS) rate increase. The United States Postal Service filed a notice of the increase with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) in October 2023. The new rates will go into effect on January 21, 2024, at 12:01 AM.

While First Class postage stamps will only see a $0.02 cent increase, the Certified Mail Fee will increase by $0.05 cents. Thus, the postage-metered mail rate to send a 1-ounce USPS Certified Mail® letter with a Return Receipt (old-fashioned Green Card) will cost $8.69.

Instead, save $2.75 per mailing off the old-fashioned green cards and forms by using Certified Mail Labels. Not only will you save significantly, but you can skip the trip to the Post Office entirely, saving you time and energy.

Aside from the seasonal rate increase during the holidays, the last USPS rate increase was in July of 2023 as part of the Delivering for America plan. As well as, an adjustment to offset inflation and operating costs.
